Snack Bites:

  • Taylor found success as a fitness influencer on TikTok and made it her full-time job.
  • Her work was disrupted after someone criticized her response to another video, and thousands stopped following her. A complaint led to a six-month account freeze at TikTok.
  • Taylor ended up deciding she wanted the stability and structure a regular 9-to-5 job provides and got hired as a social media manager.
  • While working full time elsewhere, she also continues her content business, which remains her largest source of income.

Why We Stan: Taylor didn’t want to be beholden to third-party platforms like TikTok and Instagram. So, she carved out a new path that allows her to have the benefits of being both a content entrepreneur and a full-time employee.

The Story of Taylor Olsen

Taylor Olsen found big success as an influencer on TikTok. But a six-month suspension led her to rethink the business and her professional life.

Taylor recently shared her journey with Insider. As a college student in Florida in 2020, she posted fitness content on TikTok. Her audience quickly grew, and she dropped out of school (for multiple reasons) and moved to Texas to be a full-time social media entrepreneur.

Revenue was a roller coaster – earning five figures some months and $1K other months – she made a good living. So, while she bought a car and lived in downtown Austin, she couldn’t sleep at night.

But in 2022, she faced a crisis in the business. She was accused of mean behavior and, as Taylor tells Insider, lost 100K TikTok followers and 40K Instagram followers. Then, a complaint to TikTok led to a six-month suspension of her account.

That gave her the time to slow down and reflect on what she wanted from her business and her life. “I realized I did not love my career being at the hands of people who don’t know me,” she says.

So, Taylor got a 9-to-5 job in the corporate world as a social media manager. But she didn’t give up her content business, which still is the largest source of her income. (One of her revenue sources is affiliate marketing.)

Taylor gives her audience a glimpse into her daily life and shares her fitness and health tips, too. In the Insider interview, she explains her current life makes her content more relatable to her audience.

Taylor also co-hosts a podcast – One Thing About Us – with Sam Taylor. As they explain, It’s “a show about two twenty-somethings balancing their life while learning and laughing on the way. Think of it like catching up with an old friend on FaceTime or a girls’ chit-chat over brunch and mimosas.”
