File a BOI or Pay Up
I have a question for all content entrepreneurs who structured your business as an LLC in the United States:
Have you filed your BOI with the US Treasury? It’s due by Jan. 1, 2025, for all LLC businesses incorporated before Jan. 1, 2024. (Started since Jan. 1? Your BOI was due in the first 90 days after LLC approval.)
TL;DR: Visit the BOI page of the US Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network to submit the form and get more answers to your questions.
What the heck is BOI? It stands for beneficial ownership interest. It’s a new reporting requirement from the bipartisan Corporate Transparency Act passed in 2021. According to the US Treasury, the intent is “to make it harder for bad actors to hide or benefit from their ill-gotten gains through shell companies and other opaque ownership structures.”
And the government means business. Failure to file by the deadline could lead to civil penalties starting at $500 per day and criminal penalties of up to $10,000 and/or two years in prison.
What do you need to do? Fortunately, it’s a simple process. You can file online or fill out and upload a PDF. I just did it for my LLC in 10 minutes. In addition to the standard name, address, etc., you need to share the state in which you incorporated, your EIN or Social Security number (whichever is connected to the LLC), and upload an image of your government ID.
Once you submit the application, a transcript of the submission will be provided. Make sure to download and save it with your other important documents.
Of course, we’re not the expert on this. The government’s Taxpayer Advocate Service hosts a wealth of BOI-related sources, and if you need more help, contact a professional service provider.

Tilt: Helping people have productive lifestyles
Scene: YouTube (457K). Instagram (77.9K) newsletter (20+K); Vlog Like a Boss, Good Morning to Life books; 365 Days of Good Morning Good Life planner; speaking; Facebook (36K)
Snack Bites:
- Four years after quitting college, Amy found a great home on YouTube for her productivity lifestyle content. More than a decade later, she has 457K subscribers and an expanded content business.
- Amy focused on one revenue stream at a time. After adding speaking to that lineup, she saw an opportunity to author a book related to her topics.
- She says the key to her multiple-channel success is the audience. She grounds everything she does around them and listens for new opportunities.
Why We Stan: Amy isn’t a get-rich-quick entrepreneur. She’s taken the time to grow her successful business, only expanding when she (and her audience) are ready for the next step.

things to know
Money
-
Snap out: Snapchat introduced “sponsored snaps” in users’ DM inboxes. Most see the first three slots filled with DMs that aren’t from their friends. [Social Media Today]
Tilt Take: We agree with Andrew Hutchinson: Users go to Snapchat for its intimate connection compared to other social platforms. Ads are an inauthentic experience that may lead them to leave the channel.
Audiences
-
Promote me: Half of podcast listeners who say it’s easy to find new shows say they discover them through their preferred podcast app, according to The Podcast Host’s Podcast Discovery Survey. [Podnews]
Tilt Take: Popularity begets popularity. Make sure to ask your audience for reviews and ratings for a suggested content win. -
Blue thoughts: Though Bluesky’s new users are growing significantly, it remains a relatively small platform. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay attention to it. Claim your publisher account and create a starter pack with a curated list of accounts of people to follow. [A Media Operator]
Tilt Take: Great advice, especially for a platform without a complicated algorithmic content surfacing formula.
Tech and Tools
-
AI flags: GPTZero found 25 to 30 recent posts by the 100 most popular newsletters on Substack contained AI-generated content. It also found seven “significantly rely” on it. Of that group, four confirmed they use AI tools, and three didn’t respond. [Wired]
Tilt Take: Audiences aren’t running AI detectors; they vote with their opens, clicks, and consumption time.
And Finally
-
No shift: YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan says a transformational shift in technology and changing viewers’ tastes will always exist, but so will a desire to connect with authenticity. [The Atlantic]
Tilt Take: Make your content all about you (well, all about you, your expertise, insight, etc.)
